I teach 120 sixth grade students at a public middle school. Most of them have little understanding of where their food comes from or how plants grow. My class focuses on vegetable gardening but also includes nutrition and ecology. Our garden relies on environmentally friendly techniques and welcomes regular visits from local Master Gardeners. The students love the chance to get outside and play in the dirt and fight over the first strawberries. They take ownership of the produce and show pride in the garden.
