The students this project serves are public high school seniors who are enrolled in an college preparatory physics course. Most students are planning to attend colleges or universities, but not necessarily pursue careers in science or engineering. The students are so focused on just getting to the answer that they seem to have forgotten how they might actually get there on their own. These materials will help reshape the curriculum into one that emphasizes investigation and curiosity, performing experiments and making connections, and critical thinking and problem-solving skills. On the occasions these types of activities have been performed, students have excelled: they want to be challenged, and they want to think for themselves, and they rise up to higher expectations. Until now, they simply have not been required to do so. By funding these materials, you will be showing your support for inquisitive thought, reasoning and problem-solving over mindlessly following directions.
