Before my students come to school, they may have experienced something that frustrates them or makes them angry. As the day continues, they may have other experiences that cause frustration or anger. They often have a difficult time calming down and focusing on their work. In my classroom, I want to create a special corner for my students to visit when they are feeling upset or frustrated. In this area they will be able to sit for 10 minutes to participate in activities to redirect their negative emotions and help them calm down. This space will be calming and comfortable. It will contain sensory materials such as beads, sand, and manipulatives. Books and student journals will help students explore their emotions. I am hoping this center will help my students cope with their emotions and return to the class prepared to learn.
