My students are Transitional Kindergartners and Kindergartners combined. They are five and six years of age. Our students are ready for a life of activity and crave that feeling of strength, endurance, agility and accomplishment that can only come from physical fitness. Our school promotes healthy living however, with the limited resources, it has become the teachers' responsibility to acquire the necessary equipment. Our school is an inner city school in Santa Ana, California. Our school is located in a zip code where 70% of the adults are obese. Our school's neighborhood was featured on an HBO special, "Weight of the Nation," explaining our students' lack of safe places to play and therefore creating obesity amongst our children. Where better to play safely than their own school's playground?
