It has come to my attention that the students in my classroom are expert consumers of technology but that they have not had the opportunity to create often enough with technology. We need Legos and Bloxels to be able to integrate technology into our first and second grade curriculum. I want to teach my students to be purposeful creators with technology. I would like to have diverse building tools in my classroom so that my first and second grade students have the opportunity to show what they have learned in our curriculum in a variety of ways. The LEGOs will be available in my room for students to use for math, reading (setting, plot, etc.), science and social studies. The students will be able to build something to prove that they have learned the content and then will be able to display what they have made. The Bloxels will be used for reading (character development, story retelling, etc.) by students to show what they have learned after reading (either a read aloud or their independent reading). Bloxels allow students to create characters and scenes out of blocks and then put them into an app to build a video game. The Spheros will be used for math and literacy. I envision my students using them to practice their spelling/sight words on an ABC mat, but they can be used for so much more. Finally, the Osmo will be set up in the classroom as supplemental learning in a lot of our curricular areas...there are programs for literacy, math and coding. Many of the tools that I have chosen for my classroom are open-ended stem type building materials and I can't wait to see how the students can use them to innovate and to show me what they know.
