An AAC (autmentative and alternative communication) system is an integrated group of components used to enhance communication. These components include forms of AAC (aided or unaided), symbols, selection techniques, and strategies. Here the AAC devices (iPad + Proloquo2go software) will be used programmatically by everyone in a classroom to help identify the students who can benefit most from the system, and eventually get these students their own communication device through the IEP process. These iPads and communication software will provide years of help in exposing students to AAC and allowing their communication abilities to develop further and faster in conjunction with speech and language therapy. The design of an AAC system incorporates each individual's strengths and needs. It incorporates the individual's full communication abilities and may include existing speech, vocalizations, gestures, languages spoken, and/or some form of external system.
