We need a large area rug divided into 36 squares for organized seating for the music room. To accommodate our growing instrumentarium, chairs were removed from the classroom last year. As a result, students sit on the floor for instruction and for playing some instruments. Individualized seating will enhance classroom management and student achievement by giving each student a designated sitting area. Upon entering the class, students will know exactly where to sit, eliminating confusion and frustration. It will also save time when taking attendance. I can simply look at empty squares and mark absent students. This seating arrangement is also beneficial for learning to play recorders, hand bells and practice music reading and writing.
