In third grade, the students begin the year insecure and are accustomed to figures of authority guiding them through each aspect of the day, essentially telling them what to do. My job, as their teacher, is to teach them how to find the answers for themselves. While it is still very early in this school year, I am noticing, as in years' past, that my students are very different from one another. Some are shy, others are outspoken, and all are from very different socioeconomic backgrounds. The benefit of this age and their differences is that I have the opportunity to use these differences to help them understand the importance of problem solving and facing challenges.
