I teach an eclectic mix of learners each year, including both honors and math lab students. My honors students are self-driven and motivated to succeed, while my math lab students often struggle with math and come to class feeling frustrated or unmotivated. The challenge is compounded by the fact that math lab students have two periods of math every other day, which can make engagement even harder. The students I teach come from a diverse population, and many arrive in my classroom with very few resources. With 27 years of teaching experience, I’ve learned that each student’s needs are unique and require different approaches to support their growth. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging math environment where students feel comfortable learning and can begin to enjoy math.
