We are an intercity school with a population of 50.2% Hispanic, 34.7% African American, 7.6% Multiracial, 6.8% Caucasian, and .5% Asian. 81.6% of our school receives free lunch, 5.4% receives reduced lunch, and only 13% pay for lunch. My students do not have the advantages that the other schools have in this area. Many of our students do not have computers at home, let alone internet access. We have a library in the neighborhood, but many parents do not feel safe allowing their children to walk to the library due to fear. Most come from single parent homes, and many are "latch key kids" so asking an adult for help with a project or a ride to the library is not possible. Please help them have the technology needed to increase their love for learning.
