My second grade students are adorable, sweet, eager, learners who act like it's Christmas when they get the chance to check out a book. We don't have any sets of books in our classroom and rarely get to go to the library. Everyone at my school is on free lunch and most students live in apartments. Millennia Elementary has grown so much that it is difficult to rotate everyone into the library weekly. My dream is to expand the current classroom library and purchase chapter books that "hook" the students. We only have outdated, textbooks to read in small groups. I would love sets of high interest books to read with them daily. I want to create activities that relate to the novels we read in small groups. I would like to up the rigor by using chapter books which make the kids feel "grownup." My school is a wonderful place to work with teachers who are dedicated and willing to work long hours. The principal is a hardworking, caring, leader who everyone respects.
