We need to be moving full steam ahead to expose minority students from low socioeconomic communities to science and engineering. Our students are kinesthetic learners and retain more information when allowed to manipulate and explore. Our goal is to get more minority students interested in sciences like agriculture, physical science, life science, technology and engineering. We expect to improve math skills as well as research skills through exploratory learning, especially for our girls. For instance, our girls will develop their own lip glosses and decide which bases are more moisturizing and last the longest. We will also perform experiments to demonstrate chemical and physical changes while dressed like scientists! Our school is currently a low performing school, and we plan to change the statistics. STEAM is the future, and we plan to make our place by beginning early and continuing through high school and college.
