With the flexibility in seating options, students will be able to move around the room more easily to collaborate with all students to enhance their own understanding of mathematics as well as share their expertise with others. Having seating that is comfortable and mobile will encourage students movement to meet with others, focus, and participate. A variety of seating also allows for students to self-select or be assigned to a seat that provides opportunities to stand or move differently as needed, while not drawing attention to any one student, because all seating will be unique! Flexible seating options have helped my students find success and interest by creating an atmosphere of collaboration and safety. The current flexible seating I am able to offer takes up far too much room, creating a crowded classroom with little space for movement. These seating options will create more accessibility in our classroom while maintaining comfort and integrity of our learning environment.
