Specialist teachers have a unique job in that we get to teach all students in the building. Over the course of four years, I get to watch these children mature, grow, and bloom. Our school environment is one where students are challenged and encouraged to do their best learning, with the support of their teachers and peers. I teach music to over 500 students, Grades 1-4 and split between two school buildings. Music, especially in the educational system, is something that has always been important to me. It brings all different types of people together, and creates a positive energy and sense of camaraderie that is hard to find elsewhere. No matter how different my students are, for the 40 minutes they're in that room together they're working toward the exact same goal. That is something I have always found fascinating.
