My students live in a poor Philadelphia neighborhood. Many children came to school for the first time lacking basic skills. My class consists of 30 students and me. They range in ability levels. Some are learning English as a 2nd language, some are special education and some of the regular education students are not supported educationally at home. My goal is to have every child become a proficient learner. The curriculum requires 120 minutes of literacy and 90 minutes of math daily. I have guided reading and math groups so they can learn at their level. This differentiate instruction is great, but keeping the others on task is a challenge. My students love me and I love and care for each and every one of them. I want them to feel and be successful. My district has had major budget cuts, I have not received any supplies this year. I buy them or go without. My students deserve better. I'm the sole provider for my family of five, so it has been a hardship. Please help me and my kids!
