My students are unique, creative individuals that are asked to think critically and problem solve on a daily basis. They are fun, caring, and make me laugh! They live in an urban community with little access to outside experiences and need real-life connections to be motivated to learn. They benefit greatly from being involved in creative projects such as this one, through motivation to learn, engagement in tasks, and working together. My students enjoy taking science to the next level, and a problem-based learning unit sets them up to want to learn, helps make connections to their daily lives, and make connections to organizations within the community. With the shift to NGSS, we are trying to add more real-life experiences while creating an engaging curriculum related to problems directly related to my students' lives.
