I am requesting lower level, high-interest books. I am requesting books to be used during science and social studies including Wild Reptiles, Wild Sea Creatures, Monster Bugs, Volcanoes! Mountains of Fire, Hungry, Hungry Sharks!, and Malala A Hero for All. Many of my students have had no formal education in their native language, and are learning to speak, read, and write in English. They need books that will hold their interest and have enough complexity to improve their new language skills. Many of the books in our building at their level are targeted to lower grades and the students feel they are not reading rigorous texts. They are in need of texts that make them feel they are reading challenging texts even if the text is below grade level.
