Our high school is a small rural school located in Florida. Our community has no industry other than local merchants, literally a one red light town. The majority of our student population lives at or below poverty level. Many are from single parent homes or live with relatives other than parents. Our students express strong desires to go to college and break free of the restraints placed on them by birth or geographical location. However, our county's current economic situation finds our schools operating under a spending freeze with no relief in sight. Even federal funds are scarce due to our ever declining student population. Once again, our students are finding themselves in a situation beyond their control. These kids need a ray of sunshine in what seems like a never ending storm!
