My school's administrators understand the importance of art, but we are in a low-income community and have a very small budget. Although last year we did not meet the federal education standards and 60% of our students come from low-income households, many of our students are intelligent and can become curious and hard-working when engaged. Most of my students speak English as a second language and respond to visual learning. When I've talked to their parents, I've found them to be supportive and aware of the importance of education even if they have not received much themselves.
