Our school district is on the New Jersey Bayshore. During Hurricane Sandy the town and the school were destroyed by the storm & flood waters. We hope our building will be ready for the students to return in May/June 2013. Currently, the students are in 4 temporary school sites. Many students are living in alternative housing situations or are living in homes which are being repaired. Many of the school employees live in town. Hence, we are a school district under extreme emotional distress at this time. Everyday our staff work to provide a stable and safe environment for the students. Breakfast and lunch are provided by the district for any students who need it. The students I work with primarily are demonstrating learning or behavioral difficulties as well as trauma from the storm.
