Between the World and Me will help us look at the issue of racism. We will use the text to do work on close reading/textual analysis. It harkens to other readings we will do by Isabel Wilkerson, James Baldwin, and Richard Wright. Students will write their own letters as well. Haroun and the Sea of Stories deals with free speech, among other themes. This will help us study the issues surrounding the recent banning of Maus in school districts as well as cancel culture. Our class works to invest in media literacy and biases.
