I currently teach at a Title One School in rural Western North Carolina. Our school consists of approximately 500 students, a majority of those students come from poverty stricken situations. Among this number of students, many are homeless. My classroom is made of 20 students. Over 60% of my students are on free and reduced lunch. An astounding 50% are served Title One Reading. Our local community has suffered from the National economic downturn and plummeted our community into a ghost town. We can only revive our community by investing in our children. Our parents have not lost hope in their children. They strive to instill the value of education in their children and hard times aside our school is still a pillar or our town. People often say " It takes a village to raise a child", this holds especially true for this community. It does take a village. However, the village we are living and working in lack critical resources to produce learners ready for a big future.
