My students will read these books as participants in small book circles. In their groups of four or five, they will be responsible for developing thought-provoking discussion questions, analytical compositions, and digital study guides. This project promotes the Nevada Academic Content Standards for ELA (NVACS) by providing engaging literature for study in collaborative learning groups. The ELA standards for reading literature (RL 10.1-10.10) require that students can cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis, determine themes and analyze in detail their development, analyze how complex characters are developed and advance the plot and theme, determine the meanings of words and phrases as they are used in the text, analyze how an author's choices impact the text, and understand how a particular point of view or cultural experience is reflected in literature.
