I teach 9th grade Intensive Reading at a Title I school in Mulberry, Florida. My students typically read anywhere between a 3rd-6th grade reading level. As one would imagine, school is a challenge for these students and many are at high risk for dropping out. For many of my students reading is a complex, frustrating task that brings little joy and even less success. My students have two periods of reading instruction which prevents them from taking electives that they enjoy and are interested in so my challenge is to keep them both motivated and engaged. These kids are amazing and talented and I love to help them build literacy skills that will influence their academic success and have a huge impact on their immediate future. Finding texts that will rekindle a love of learning and reading is a huge need and I look forward to meeting it with your help!
