My students are a culturally and ethnically diverse group of children who inspire me daily. They attend an arts-themed charter school in which 90% of the students are learning English as a second language and 100% receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. They are hard workers who are excited about learning, but who need to overcome obstacles at every turn (at home, in school, and in their communities) to achieve their goals. I am continually trying new strategies to engage my students in authentic, engaging learning experiences. This year, we are working on arts integration across the curriculum, building a love of reading, cooperative and project-based learning, and Whole Brain Teaching strategies. I am also working to build strong relationships with my students by visiting them at their homes throughout the year. I really love this group of kids, and they make me excited to go to work each day!
