I am the math/science specialist in a K-4 elementary school in CT. I have a lab setting with 9 animals that the students help to care for. Every class comes to the lab for a science lesson at least once per month to complement their classroom lessons. I try to do the lessons that are the most messy and hands-on so the regular classroom teachers don't have to scurry around to get materials and set them up. I find that taking pictures of the students as they are working on an experiment, caring for an animal, or demonstrating a new found discovery generates great enthusiasm. This enthusiasm translates into a love of science.
