All of us need to create at our pace. Some students are just natural early finishers and often need activities to engage them while they wait for others to catch up. This makerspace will offer them more opportunities to explore creating three dimensional and challenging ways. There is so much focus nowadays on scores and testing-- students need opportunities to create freely. A parent recently gave me an old set of square wooden baby blocks. Students immediately gravitated towards them and often work collaboratively to build. They are so excited to share their creations with me, that it sparked my interest in creating this space for them. These materials will be placed in bins that students will easily be able to access and explore in their extra time. My students look forward to their time in the art room because creating at home is not often an option for them. These tools will add to their excitement and creativity and hopefully foster a lifelong love for creating and building.
