I would love to read the novel, “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio with my students this upcoming school year. This book deals with a lot of issues that many of my students have encountered in their life, bullying. The class will read the book in groups, answer comprehension questions, and hold meaningful discussions based on the main topics of the book, bullying, character, friendship, understanding, kindness, and courage. Fifth grade is a pivotal year for personal growth for many of my students. I believe that by reading this book it will allow my students to see a different perspective on bullying and how it actually affects individuals and hopefully learn an important life lesson during this time. I hope that by reading this fantastic novel my students will learn to overcome some of the their own obstacles and learn to be tolerant of other people they encounter and show their true characteristics of kindness, courage, and understanding.
