95% of my students receive free lunch. 80% of my students are Hispanic, 15% native Americans and only 5% are Anglo. They have suffered from discrimination in the past. Living in a problematic house where the parents have to work 3 shifts is not helpful. I am a mechanical engineer who decided to help middle school students love and understand math. I love teaching my students! One example of the students I have is a kid that once had to call the police because he saw his dad beating mom. Another lovely kid found his mom dead in Alaska, he was adopted by a single mom in our community. These breaking heart stories are the reality of most of my students. They spend the afternoon in the skate park playing with their friends, closer to the drugs than to the books. They love video games and have no creativity with the games. There are some students that in 8th grade take drugs. It is sad, I want to bring some happiness to my students.
