Our students are amazing and have so much potential! Our county is one of the poorest in Texas, so our students often fall into the vicious cycle for which our community has become known. Over 85% of our students are on free or reduced lunches due to the widespread poverty in our area. For this reason, many are not able to afford the tuition and expense of going to college. Our school district recognizes this problem and has taken steps to give our students a competitive edge in the workforce and the tools necessary for them to become productive members of society. We have begun a culinary arts program in which our students learn the necessary skills to obtain a job in the food service or hospitality industry during and after high school or have the knowledge base to be successful in culinary school. They leave us with a nationally recognized safety and sanitation certification to give them an edge on the competition. Please join me in support of our students by sponsoring our project.
