My students are 4th graders that attend a public school in California. This project will be open to all the students at our school of 600 of K to 5th graders during twice daily recess. We have had an increase of special needs students over the past few years and learning how to interact socially if often their biggest need. Sports is often too competitive, they are not part of the popular groups and feel bullied, left out and ignored. My school has three nice picnic tables available at recess and I feel that offering the opportunity for students to have an area where they can draw, read, or just talk would be very welcome. These are the kids you often see wandering by themselves. Our student council members will monitor the art supplies and encourage appropriate social interactions with myself as the teacher leader. Students can work together and play together across grade levels at the same time can learn appropriate ways to make friends in a non-threatening environment at recess
