Students who will not read can not read! I teach eighth grade physical science. My students come from varied backgrounds. Many are English Language Learners whose first language may be a Native American language, with their second language being Spanish. English is the third language of some of these students. The bright pictures and relevant articles in the Weekly Reader "Current Science" Magazine intrigue the students and make them want to read. Once they have the "want to" they quickly develop the "can" too!
