I teach in a 4th grade dual-immersion classroom at an inner-city school. The majority of our students belong to a racial minority group, come from low-income homes and speak English as a second language. In addition, about 30% of my class have special needs. Despite all of the challenges these children face, they remain persistent, brave, funny and dedicated to overcoming their difficulties and achieving their academic goals. They are optimistic, compassionate and funny, which makes it a pleasure to be their teacher.
