Our school is located in a very low socioeconomic, rural area. Most of our students come from single parent families. We serve breakfast and lunch at our school and we have the Backpack Buddies program for children to take food home for the weekend. School is the best place that many of them go during the week. They do not go out of this area much so therefore, it is difficult for them to realize what the rest of the world is like. Our school is fairly new, but we are very limited with monetary resources. Our teachers pay for many items out-of-pocket. The technology in my classroom consists of one computer for me, an old overhead projector, and two cassette tape players. I want my children to experience the latest technology, especially in the area of listening to books on CD. They love to listen to me read but they also like listening at the Listening Center! An updated listening center would be wonderful!
