My students and I work hard in order to make the gains needed to be successful in college. Many of my students enter junior year with a 9th or 10th grade reading and writing level, so we have lots of reading, essay writing, insightful text-based discussion, more writing and revising, and research to do to get students where they need to be -- college ready. Please consider donating to my classroom needs, because my school is truly an inner-city school, with 95% free or reduced lunch, 99% single-ethnic minority (African American), and most of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from college. In the words of President Obama, "We will get there!". We work from reading and writing to instilling critical reading skills as essential habit of mind. I teach reading response, essay writing through the traditional academic modes . Get to know me and my students!
