I teach in a rural Vermont school with long, cold winters and wet springs. It is so important for the children have a hobby other than watching TV or gaming. Last winter, after our initial lesson, every day over 65% of my class would work on a knitting project during their free time in class. They made scarves, hats, bracelets and trinkets for friends and family. The best part is we worked with our older students in our k-8 school and they even taught me how to knit. The students are already looking forward to learning and have no gender bias thanks to all the boys in the middle school that teach us.
