In addition to the Math and Language Arts that students are learning in the classroom, I am trying to expose them to Science and Technology. With the Sphero – SPRK+ Educational Robot, students will have the opportunity to work with simple computer code and spark their interest in engineering. It is my hope that the use of these robots as a motivational factor will improve and sharpen their math, science, and logical thinking skills. In the classroom, we have been learning simple code through bitsbox.com and have created various games that can be played through the computer and their phones. With Sphero – SPRK+ Educational Robot, I want students to be able to see that coding can translate over to machines and other concrete objects by simply creating commands and actions to be carried out. In addition to learning coding, we will also use the robots to do work on measuring angles and turns in real life situations, as well as using them to create floats for our State Reports. With the opportunity to use this technology, I would love to open up the possibilities to a future career in science, technology, engineering, or math for my students.
