My students attend a rural school district in Nebraska, which has adopted Google Apps for Education. The typical classroom is a mix of socioeconomic status, but the one thing they all enjoy is working with technology to problem-solve and work together on a variety of projects related to social studies. Their eyes light up when technology is infused with learning, but this has been an increasingly difficult prospect to achieve due to diminishing district resources. Our school has faced economic difficulties that have put a growing strain on our technology resources. Students are allowed to bring their own technology to school; but not all students have this luxury, and the lack of these items places undue attention on those who cannot afford them. When I am able to reserve the required technology for classroom activities, the collaborative nature of my middle school students is unleashed and they create amazing things while working together in a 21st century environment!
