We started our Robotics class six years ago with a handful of middle school students. Mostly boys. Over these years our TeamEureka Robotics program has grown to include nearly 50:50 boy/girl ratio in grades 5-8 with FIRST LEGO League and 9-12 competing at the HS level FIRST TECH Challenge. Students come from all academic and social interests. Our rural town is off the beaten track with some students living in town and others busing in from up to an hour away. We have little ethnic diversity and participating in FIRST Robotics gives many of these students a chance to experience a larger city and identify with other students as problem-solving engineers.
