I teach 47 second graders in an urban public charter school in in Washington, DC. They are 85% Hispanic and most speak Spanish at home. They attend school in a dual-immersion, bilingual setting, in which they spend half their day learning in English, and half their day in Spanish. Both classrooms provide highly rigorous literacy instruction, including reading, writing and word study. Students learn math and social studies in English class and science in Spanish. They are highly motivated, intelligent, well-rounded second-graders who are eager to learn and appreciate the value of their education.

About my class
