I teach in a low-income school where 88% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. The majority of my kindergarten students come from underprivileged families that lack experiences with new technologies at home that could enhance their literacy, math, science, and social studies achievement. Music plays an important role in my classroom considering that many of my students have musical intelligence which is sometimes referred to as being music smart. Students who are music smart have the ability to produce, remember, and make meaning through music. Do you remember singing the alphabet song? This is an example of a teaching strategy that helped you learn the alphabet. Educational songs for reading, writing, math, science, and social studies concepts promote learning through musical intelligence.
