I am a teacher at HES and seeking to support my colleagues and learn together. We are interested in learning more deeply about race, culturally responsive practices, and anti-racist practices to ensure that all of our students feel safe, welcomed, supported, and nurtured in our school. While we feel our school is all of those things, we also know there is always room to learn and grow and are excited about this opportunity. Through our study, we hope to universally include Glen Singleton’s Courageous Conversation Protocols and Framework into our daily work; ultimately coaching our students on the use of the tools and protocols. We know that having a common language and a common frame of reference can help start and normalize difficult conversations and foster critical thinking skills. We believe that in order to assure our students that they are ready for a global economy and changing world, that we need to help facilitate and guide conversations about race and inclusion as part of that promise.
