My students are first grade economically disadvantaged kids coming from hispanic families. They attend a public school in Texas and 90 percent of them qualify for reduced or free breakfast and lunch. The lack of resources they face at home every day makes them feel more safe and comforatable in school. They all enjoy coming to school and state they want to learn to read more and more every day because they want to be ready for second grade.
