We're an inner city public middle school in CA. Our student population is 85% low social economic status. We just suffered a $95,000 budget cut. Our students thrive in a rigorous academic environment but many lack access to technology at home. We have ~200 students classified as "homeless". We have a positive school atmosphere where students feel safe and productive. Our budget issues have caused us to cancel our Science Academy in which students learned about engineering, our space program and the history of NASA. Many students have approached me requesting updates on Curiosity on Mars, which we followed closely last year. Our students have used the Moon KAM to take images of the moon and were looking forward to mapping Mars with MSIP. My students desire more engineering experiences such as the lunar landers we built last year. Launching rockets was supposed to be our fall blast-off and many students felt disappointed when we could not continue with our studies of Curiosity rover.
