In my classroom ELA, Math and science has a strong hands on component that includes leveled centers and a variety of differentiated project choices. This year I would like to add social studies centers and projects to our routine. In second grade we place a strong emphasis on the world learning about landforms, oceans and continents. The globes and maps will help the understand our world. So many of my children come from different countries learning centers will improve their sense of community by understanding how their cultures are alike and different. Incorporating center based learning the children will increase their understanding.
