Located in Orange County, California, the Fullerton School District serves a diverse population of K-8th grade students from varied socio-economic backgrounds, with more than 44% of children qualifying for Title I and 34 home languages spoken district-wide. Our school population reflects this diverse nature of Fullerton. My classroom aims to prepare my students with college- and career- ready skills enabling them to lead in a globally connected economy and society. The students in my classroom so enjoy sharing and working in collaboration with each other. I build in frequent opportunities for students to share with one another, through pair-share, small groups, and collaborative projects. In these activities it becomes evident the student learning taking place as they engage in conversation on the topics we are studying in class. The ability to engage students in conversation is essential for their understanding of the complex topics they are studying.
