I love working in my classroom to provide students many opportunities for success. So many children are spending too much time in front of the television and video games at home. As a result, it is very difficult for them to focus and pay attention to instruction for extended periods of time at school. I am also seeing a huge decline in language and listening skills. I incorporate many hands on activities throughout the day that keep students engaged and motivated to learn. I work very closely with the occupational and speech therapists and many general education teachers in my Title 1 school. I have learned so much from these knowledgeable educators that I otherwise might not have realized on my own. They have shown me strategies and therapies that all children can benefit from, especially students with special needs. These strategies help all my students find success as lifelong learners.
