We are seated on a rug for part of our learning day, but this Counting Caterpillar rug will allow us to not only aesthetically enjoy numbers, but we will play games directly connected to the content on the rug. It will also be used for a center where students will be building strategic skills and concrete foundational skills. The caddies will provide easy table top access to multiple mediums for use in graphing, creating models, representing numbers. All of these representations aid in assessing student learning. The sorters are another way for students to represent the numbers they are learning. The sorting practice is a prerequisite to more difficult math skills. Providing a space filled with stimulating furnishings, materials, and supplies is an important asset that leads to higher student achievement. All of these items will appeal to students of multiple learning styles and will provide new layers of accomplishment. In response to elevated levels of accomplishment, confidence is built and a growth mindset is solidified in this self realization. Each year I am encouraged by the excitement that is growing in our classroom and the desire of students to conquer new and innovative ideas that are nurtured by a spirit of enthusiasm and curiosity. I hope you will seriously consider funding this project to help our class of diverse students with diverse learning attitudes and styles become victorious in their quest for advancement.
