How exciting would it be to come into a classroom and have the opportunity to start using your imagination! No worksheet, no writing, no reading...just exploring! My students trickle in during the morning due to car riders being dropped of, school buses arriving, and students eating breakfast. It is difficult to assign work during this time. What a great opportunity to allow students to use math, science, and their imagination to create and build! The student desks will be set up in groups of four. I will place a "morning tub" on each set of desk. The "morning tubs" will be filled with Magna-Tiles, Goobi construction set, Dominoes, Brain Flakes, or dice balls. I will place suggestion cards to go with each tub. The students can try to duplicate the suggestion or explore and create their own masterpiece. I will rotate the tubs to different tables daily. Each 9 weeks I will change the manipulatives in the morning tubs. I can't wait to see the inventions this year!
