I teach in a public ETK through 5th grade school in a low income community. My students are 6 and 7 year old first grade students. Although they are in the same general age range, their language, reading and math skills vary. The majority of my students are English Language Learners, acquiring vocabulary and reading skills simultaneously. My students are motivated and eager to succeed. First grade common core standards are rigorous and the curriculum is very intense. I want to continue to reach all students and support them in achieving grade level standards. At the same time, I also want them to enjoy the experience and create great memories in first grade.
